Legoland Florida celebrated Earth Day on Friday with a solar energy project.
- Legoland Florida adding solar panels to covered parking lot
- Lot will produce enough electricity to power 250 homes a year
- Tampa Electric to maintain solar array
The park in Winter Haven announced it was partnering with Tampa Electric to add a canopy of solar energy panels over the park’s preferred parking lot. The panels would shade more than 600 vehicles while also producing enough electricity to power up to 250 homes each year.
Tampa Electric will maintain the solar array.
Legoland says the new solar energy project is part of several ongoing environmental initiatives at the park. A solar panel array is already installed at the park’s Imagination Zone venue.
The vehicles in the Ford Junior Driving School attraction are also charged with solar power.
At the park Friday, kids helped park workers create an Earth Day-themed Lego mural and a large Lego tree.
