Orlando is the top travel destination for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, according to AAA, and Central Florida will be busy throughout the summer.
- Busy season of summer travel is expected
- Orlando will be a top destination this summer
- New attractions to open at SeaWorld, Disney World, Universal and Epcot
- On The Town - Attractions
Visit Orlando says we should expect it to be busy in Central Florida through the rest of the summer.
"Orlando welcomed 66 million visitors in 2015, so we’re really excited and looking forward to 2016, and summer is trending upwards in Orlando, so we’re looking to increase visitation this summer," Visit Orlando’s Denise Spiegel said.
AAA surveyed Florida residents about their summer travel plans. They found 27 percent of respondents will visit a theme park this summer.
For residents and out of state visitors, they’ll have a lot to see that’s new. At SeaWorld Orlando, the park will debut its new Mako roller coaster June 10. It’s dubbed Orlando’s tallest, longest and fastest coaster. King Kong comes back to Universal Orlando this summer with Skull Island: Reign of Kong opening at Islands of Adventure. The Incredible Hulk Coaster will also reopen at the park this summer after being closed for several months to make changes to the storyline, ride vehicles and track.
At Walt Disney World, Frozen Ever After opens at Epcot’s Norway pavilion June 21. It takes guests on a boat ride through Arendelle with Elsa, Anna and Olaf. Epcot's Soarin' will also reopen with new scenes from around the world June 17.
Before then, nighttime attractions open Friday at Disney's Animal Kingdom, including new projections on the Tree of Life and Kilimanjaro Safaris at night.
The park's special water effects and music show, the Jungle Book: Alive with Magic opens Saturday night.
